Here’s my unwanted 2cents on the musical supernatural 200th episode:
Yeah, I’m excited about it because we’ve been asking for it for so long, but in the same breath the episode is called “Fanfiction” and I’m really not in the mood to watch them make fun of the fanbase like they did in other ‘fandom inspired’ episodes especially after the shit the show pulled at the end of last season.
You feel me?
No, because I think it’s hilarious when they make fun of us because most of the time, it’s actually how we act and what we do. If you can’t laugh at the fandom then I don’t understand fans because I find us hilarious.
I understand that its good to take a step back and laugh at yourself and occasionally the fandoms you’re in and for a show to do this shows that they are if nothing else if not aware of what the buzz of the fandom is. And its great that they’ve got an ear on the pulse of the fans but all joking is not made equal, There are different way to go about it:
There is the Ember Island Players way.
Where the atla team pokes fun at the fandom and its troupes and all its ships, but its all with a light intent; its as much a joke on themselves as it is gentle ribbing at the fandom. It’s an homage, not hurtful. They make fun of a popular ship in that episode, Zutara, but no one, not even zutaraians, were upset about it because thats not it’s intent. It was a joke, but it wasn’t at the fandom’s expense because we were in on the laughs as much as the creators were.
and then there is the Becky way.
The becky way is not nice, its not a fun little shout out to the supernatural fans. It’s mean and it’s meant to shame people for being remotely like her. She’s a bad guy and she’s supposed to be a reflection of the audience. We’re not laughing with becky we’re meant to laugh AT her. She’s a joke but the real joke is aimed at the very people who are responsible for keeping SPN as popular as it is for as long as it has.
I have no interest in Becky-esque meta episodes, especially from a show that simultaneous encourages and praises its fanbase for being so active only to call them crazy when they act on the hints and easter-eggs and messages that THEY PUT IN THE SHOW.
Thats why I’m not excited.
so i was reading [this] article about the musical episode of supernatural and
ok you have my interest
oh my god
This is real and it’s on TV Guide, who are notorious for avoiding slash talk.
what a shock its queerbaiting and making fun of their fans all in one.

She was emotionally abused for years and was able to break free and actually find happiness on her own, and now she forgives one of her bullies and helps her do the same…if that’s not true strength I don’t know what strength is…the whole message in here is amazing
